VeriFactu for auto repair shops: 2027 dates and how to comply

If you run a workshop in Spain and issue invoices, VeriFactu affects you. Royal Decree-Law 15/2025 pushed the deadlines to 2027, but that extension is for you, not for your software provider. This guide explains in plain language what the regulation requires, when it applies to you, and how to get ready without stopping the workshop.

The dates, which changed in December 2025

A lot of information still in circulation cites the old calendar (January and July 2026). That calendar is no longer in effect. These are the correct dates:

  • January 1, 2027: companies and entities subject to Corporate Tax.
  • July 1, 2027: self-employed workers and everyone else required to comply, which is where most workshops fall.
  • Already in effect since July 29, 2025: the obligation on invoicing software manufacturers and distributors.

That last line is the one almost nobody mentions, and it's the one that matters to you: the extension applies to the workshop, not to the program. Your provider has been required to offer an adapted product for a year now. If they still can't tell you in writing that theirs complies, that's a fact about your provider, not about the deadline.

What is VeriFactu?

VeriFactu is the Tax Agency's (AEAT) system requiring invoices to be generated with software that guarantees they can't be deleted or tampered with. Every invoice is recorded, chained to the previous one via a digital fingerprint (hash), and carries a QR code anyone can scan to verify it with the AEAT.

Does it affect my workshop?

Yes. The rule applies to any business owner or professional who invoices in Spain, and auto repair shops invoice daily: repairs, maintenance, parts. It doesn't matter whether you're self-employed or a company: if you issue invoices with software, that software must comply with the regulation.

What your invoicing software must do

  • Generate a billing record for every invoice, chained to the previous one.
  • Include the AEAT's QR code and the "VERI*FACTU" legend on the invoice.
  • Prevent deleting or altering invoices already issued (corrections are made with credit notes).
  • Be able to submit the records to the AEAT.

The three most common mistakes at workshops

  1. Sticking with Excel or templates. They don't comply, and penalties reach up to €50,000.
  2. Patching the old program. Many veteran workshop programs haven't been adapted; ask your provider for their written VeriFactu compliance declaration.
  3. Reading the extension as two years of breathing room. The real work isn't the day of the switch, it's migrating clients, vehicles and history. Doing it calmly is easy; doing it in the last quarter, with the workshop full, isn't.

How Tallerio handles it

Tallerio is management software built specifically for workshops, with VeriFactu invoicing built in: chained record, AEAT QR code and official legend on every invoice, no extra modules. You also manage appointments, work orders, clients and vehicles from the same panel. Check the plans and pricing or book a 15-minute demo.

Frequently asked questions

Is VeriFactu mandatory for auto repair shops?

Yes, although the deadline was pushed back. VeriFactu is part of the Regulation on Requirements for Invoicing Computer Systems (Royal Decree 1007/2023). Royal Decree-Law 15/2025 delayed the dates: companies become required on January 1, 2027 and self-employed workers on July 1, 2027. What wasn't delayed is the obligation on software manufacturers, in effect since July 29, 2025.

If I have until 2027, why switch now?

Because the extension is yours, not your provider's. Invoicing software manufacturers and distributors have been required since July 29, 2025, so as of today your program should already be adapted or have a firm date to be. If it doesn't, the problem won't solve itself, and migrating clients, vehicles and history calmly is very different from doing it in the last quarter with the workshop full.

Can I keep making invoices in Excel or Word?

No. Invoices made in Excel, Word or paper templates don't comply with VeriFactu: they don't generate the chained billing record or the mandatory QR code. You need certified invoicing software.

What happens if my workshop doesn't comply with VeriFactu?

Once the obligation applies to you, the Tax Agency can impose penalties of up to €50,000 per fiscal year for using invoicing software that doesn't comply with the regulation. Also, your invoices might not be valid for business clients who require the VeriFactu QR code.

Does Tallerio comply with VeriFactu?

Yes. Tallerio generates invoices with the chained record, the AEAT QR code and the VERI*FACTU legend built in. You don't need to purchase any separate module or change how you work.
